About the WCCA

Project Rationale

Too FunnyRecent research findings indicate that creativity correlates positively with healthy aging, and artistic expression serves to enrich the lives of people of all ages. WCCA has been established to nurture and strengthen the opportunities for older adults in Westchester County to participate in arts programs. WCCA is dedicated to creating a strong support network and coalition  of older adults, artists and providers, that will promote artistic engagement across the lifespan and expand opportunities in Westchester County for such programs to blossom.

In Westchester County there is no central resource or coordinating agency for information about programs which offer older adults opportunities to be engaged in creative arts programs.  Westchester Center for Creative Aging is developing a database of organizations and artists that offer arts programs and creativity experiences for older adults. With the support of United Way of  Westchester and Putnam we will make this vital information available through the publication of print directories that will help people searching for arts classes suitable for older adults to find them in their neighborhoods; artists looking for places to teach to identify  Centers that are amenable to such programs; and organizations searching for artists to locate quality and experienced arts teachers and group leaders.
