“ART WITH INTENT:
Honoring the Creativity of Older Adults”
Westchester Center for
Creative Aging’s 3rd Annual Art Exhibition
May 5th - June 13th, 2007
“Nature’s
original work of art is my backdrop; the majestic Hudson River
and age-old Palisades, dappled light dancing on water, clouds
telling their own stories, and always my wife, Theresa,
encouraging me.”
2006
Exhibiting Artist, Leonard Nieves, Hastings, N.Y.
“When I was
young, it seems there was no room in me for creativity to flow
with any ease. Now that I am older, I find I can easily take in
and process the beauty around me. I am constantly inspired to
paint. What a joy it is to be “over the hill” living in a
valley of wonder and enchantment to inspire me to create!”
2006
Exhibiting Artist, Louise R. Black, White Plains, N.Y.
“What motivates and inspires your creativity
as an artist?” Accompanying each
artwork in the 2006 “Art With Intent” show was the 60 artist’s
responses to this compelling question. This year the artist’s
will have a new thought provoking question to consider.
The Westchester
Center for Creative Aging (WCCA) announces its third
annual juried exhibition, ART WITH INTENT: Honoring the
Creativity of Older Adults during “Older Americans Month” in
May. The exhibition will be hosted at Andrus-on-Hudson, N.Y.
from May 5 – June 13, 2007. The opening reception
will be held on Saturday, May 5th, from 1-3 PM.
The submission
guidelines and qualifications are simple: Artists must be 55+,
reside in Westchester County, and the artwork must be created in
a class setting, an older adult community center, independently,
or from an intergenerational project. The categories are:
painting, drawing, quilting, 2-D soft sculpture, pen & ink,
watercolor, oil, acrylic, color pencil, photography, computer &
digital art, and mixed media.
The Westchester
Center for Creative Aging (WCCA) is dedicated to
fostering an understanding of the positive relationship between
creative expression and the quality of life of older adults.
WCCA has been established to nurture and strengthen the
opportunities for 55+ adults in Westchester County to
participate in arts programs by creating funding opportunities
for new art programs and a strong support network and coalition
of older adults, artists, and providers. Recent research
findings indicate that creativity correlates positively with
healthy aging, and artistic expression serves to enrich the
lives of people of all ages. WCCA recognizes that creative
engagement makes a difference in the lives of older people and
we support the growth of such programs.
Applications are available through the
WCCA website:
www.wccreativeaging.org, the
Westchester Arts Council website:
www.westarts.com or by emailing:
website@westarts.com, and through
